Childbirth is not a topic I enjoy talking about - I do think it is an amazing thing though! Lately, my life has been consummed by childbirth, I had three of my sister in-laws pregnant at the same time and two of them have given birth recently. Listening to them compare their deliveries was definitely a learning experience. My little brother actually took a video of the childbirth (parts of it because my sister in law would not allow him to tape it all). I remember the pain she was going through during the delivery and the look on her face when she saw her daughter! I chose this experience because it is so recent (December 4th) and I did watch the video.
Childbirth in Poland is pretty similar to childbirth in the United States. Most of the births (according to my reserch) still take place in a hospital. My boyfriend is from Poland and remembered parts of his little brothers birth. They lived in a small village and the closest hospital was about forty minutes away but he does remember they made it to the hospital. He was also born in the hospital.
I found an article about Polish women living on the border going into Germany to have their children. The women choose Germany because they can decide how they would like to live birth and it is free to deliver there. This article is interesting because the doctors (both German and Polish) are encouraging the women to cross the border but the Polish National Health Fund is denying the bills when they come in. This article was from 2007 so I am going to continue researching if this is still happening along the border.
